Coming Soon!

“Family App” which will keep you up to date on your child, everything going on at the nursery and general information too.

  • When you apply for a place with us, we keep a record of your application. The nursery team will look at the information to help decide who can be offered a place.

    A few things to know:

How long your child has been on the list does not affect their priority.  You can see your application form anytime.  If anything changes—like your contact details or your child’s needs—please let us know right away so we can keep your application up to date.

We’re happy to answer any questions and help make the process as smooth as possible.

  • Our Nursery opening hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. Within these opening hours, places are allocated on a full or part-time basis and whenever possible will be allocated to suit the individual needs of the parent and the child.

    Fulltime: 8am to 6pm

    Part-time (am) 8am 1pm

    Part-time (pm) 1pm to 6pm

  • Our Nursery operates for children between the ages of 6 weeks to 5 years. This is broken down within the following rooms.

Baby room & Tweenies: 6 weeks to 2 years

    2-3 room 2 years to 3 years

    3-5 room 3 years to 5 years.

  • We ask that a responsible adult brings your child to nursery and collects them at the end of the day.

If someone else is collecting your child, please make sure they are 16 years old or over, and let us know in advance. We will only release your child to someone we know you have authorised.

To keep your child safe, we use a password system. If someone else is collecting and we haven’t been given the password, we won’t be able to let your child go with them until the password has been shared and our staff are confident the process has been completed.

Telling us who will be collecting your child helps avoid any tricky or upsetting moments at the end of the day if we don’t know the adult who arrives.

Thanks for working with us to keep all children safe!

  • We provide breakfast, a nutritious lunch, and a small healthy snack for the children throughout the day. Lunch is balanced and filling, and snacks might include things like fruit, breadsticks, crackers, or rice cakes.

In Scotland, all early learning and childcare settings follow national nutritional guidance called “Setting the Table”, which helps ensure meals, snacks, and drinks meet children’s nutritional needs and support good health and development.

We also take part in the Scottish Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme, which supports settings to provide children with a daily portion of milk (or a suitable alternative) and a healthy snack each day.

If your child has any special dietary requirements, allergies, or cultural needs, we will follow these carefully, including diets such as vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher, or gluten-free. Please speak to your child’s key worker so we can make sure mealtimes are safe, enjoyable, and suited to your child.

Alternatively, if you prefer, you are welcome to provide your child’s own food. Please speak to your child’s key worker about this so we can ensure it is stored safely and meets your child’s needs.

  • We love messy play because it helps your child explore and learn! Our staff always try to make sure your child wears aprons during activities, but sometimes paint, glue or other materials can still get on clothes. Please dress your child in clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.

For comfort and safety, please also make sure your child has:

    • Indoor shoes (e.g. slippers or soft shoes)

    • Outdoor clothes suitable for all weathers — a rain jacket and wellies for outdoor play

We also encourage children to wear a puddle suit (a waterproof allinone suit) so they can play outside in the rain or muddy conditions without getting soaked. A puddle suit keeps them dry and comfortable for outdoor exploration and learning.

If your child is attending all day and needs nappies & wipes, please remember to bring these with you.

There are some items of clothing that are not suitable for nursery, including anything that:

    • Might encourage division (for example, football colours that can create “teams”)

    • Could cause offence (such as clothing with antireligious symbols or inappropriate slogans)

    • Might cause health & safety issues (like loose clothing or dangling earrings)

    • Carries advertising for alcohol or tobacco

We also kindly remind parents that it’s best not to send your child in expensive items of clothing or accessories — it helps avoid upset if something gets lost or marked during play.

Thank you for helping us keep playtime fun, safe, and comfortable for everyone!

  • Parents whose children are in the nursery are asked to provide the names, address and telephone numbers of people who can be contacted in the event of an emergency, we will only contact these contacts if we are unable to contact the parent/carer.

We would ask that you keep the nursery up to date with any changes in this information.

  • Due to many applicants on the register, places that are not being used will not be held open. After 2 weeks of no contact the nursery will contact the parent in writing to establish if there is a continuing need for the placement.

If for any reason a child is unable to attend the nursery, a telephone call to the nursery is required to allow us to know who will not be attending on a day and why. If your child is going on holidays prior notification is required.

  • Our Key Worker System

At our nursery, we use a key worker system to help every child feel secure, supported, and valued. Each key worker is a qualified or supported trainee early years practitioner and is responsible for a group of children.

    Your child’s key worker will:

    • Build strong relationships with you and your child, getting to know your family and your child’s needs

    • Observe and understand your child’s skills and abilities over time

    • Plan learning experiences to help your child develop new skills and reach their potential

    • Create a supportive learning environment, making sure the space is set up well and that the right resources are available for your child to explore and learn

The key worker acts as a friendly point of contact for parents and carers, helping to ensure your child’s time at nursery is happy, safe, and full of learning opportunities.

  • It is important that when entering and leaving the nursery that you ensure all doors are secure. Please be patient when you press the intercom as staff are working with the children, this will ensure that’s’ your child’s learning is not disrupted.

Please do not allow your child to leave the building without being accompanied by you. Staff can identify the people entering the nursery therefore the doors must remain closed until opened by a member of staff, this reduces any security risks that may arise.

  • Our Fire alarm is tested every Friday morning; our alarm is a continuous high pitch siren. Our meeting point if evacuated is our garden areas. If we are fully evacuated, we would be moved to the following:

    The Church of Broom

    Mearns Road

    Glasgow

    G77-5HN

  • At KGN we have a clean air policy and smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building or the surrounding areas.

  • The nursery will be opened on the times stated, but on occasion circumstances arise that may result in an early closure. Our nursery may be affected by, for example severe weather conditions, power failure or difficulties with our heating systems. If this happens, we will do all we can to let you know about the closure as soon as we possibly can.

  • Risk assessments are carried out daily throughout the whole nursery, this is to ascertain possible hazards, if any risks are identified they are rectified immediately to ensure our children are learning in a safe environment.

  • We aim to provide a high quality nursery service that meets the changing needs of our community. We always try our best to make sure parents, carers and children are happy and satisfied with the care and support they receive.

If you have any comments, concerns or complaints, we encourage you to speak to a member of our management team first — often this is the quickest way to resolve things.

If the issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, you can contact the nursery owner, who will:

    • Take a neutral stance in fully investigating your complaint

    • Acknowledge receipt of your complaint within five working days

    • Provide a full written response within a further 10 days, unless a different timescale has been agreed

If your complaint still hasn’t been resolved to your satisfaction, you can contact the Care Inspectorate — the body in Scotland that regulates and inspects early learning and childcare services like ours. You can make a complaint to them at any time, and you do not need to have complained to us first if you prefer to go directly to them.
